In 2016, the federal government released the latest version of its National Educational Technology plan. This plan challenges educators to use computer technology to “collaborate far beyond the walls of their schools,” and to “design highly engaging and relevant learning experiences” for students (U.S. Department of Education, 2016, p. 26-27).
The National Educational Technology plan presents some worthy aspirations. However, the challenge for many educators is learning how to incorporate new ideas into teaching practices. Traditional teaching styles dominate classrooms and new ways of teaching need to emerge.
